On Tues 23rd September 2014 - a Tea and Friendship afternoon, organised by Customer Care Manager Diane Keay from the Morrison branch, was held in the Unity Centre in Rotherham. This brought together socially isolated people and their vounteers from the local area.

The Mears Foundation purchased games and activities for the afternoon, which included scrabble games, dominoes, cards, draughts, Jenga etc.

Age UK and Mears Care publicised the event and volunteers brought lonely people along to the event in their cars. Refreshements which included delicious home baked cakes, were provided by staff from both Morrisons and Mears Care.

Rotherfed’s ‘Digital Champions’ also attended and showed people what a digital tablet could be used for, this included shopping, playing music and taking & storing photographs.

Customer Care Manager, Diane Keay said,"The event went even better than I expected, there was a real buzz in the room and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, I have had some really positive feedback. I spoke to quite a few people and heard lots of cases where people are alone all day which is why events such as this can really make a difference. We are joining up with our partners in Rotherham to develop some further initatives so watch this space!"
