Tis the Season for Spreading Christmas Cheer !

AGE UK CHRISTMAS LUNCH –  annual Christmas Lunch was held on 12th December with 12 lunches being served to the guests of Age UK. The guests attended the Age UK Carol Service at the Clifton Methodist Church before moving into the church hall to be served a 2 course traditional lunch by our team of volunteers. The food was provided through funding from Mears Foundation and was cooked and prepared by volunteers from our team including office staff, operatives and managers. The lunch was followed by an entertainer and a raffle with some of our volunteers dancing with the guests. Once again, an excellent day was had by guests and volunteers alike.
LIGHTHOUSE HOMES – SOUP & SANDWICHES – as part of our annual Christmas event, our team prepared homemade soup and sandwiches and delivered them to the Lighthouse Homes homeless shelter in Rotherham for their clients.
SHILOH – SOUP – approximately 70 portions of soup were made by our team and delivered to Shiloh for them to freeze and use as required. This annual donation was made possible by the financial donation from The Mears Foundation.
SAFE-HAVEN – SOUP – a quantity of homemade soup equivalent to approximately 70 portions was collected by representatives from Safe-Haven from our Christmas kitchen along with a quantity of bread donated by the School of Artisan Food. This soup and bread was used by their outreach team to support the needy people of Rotherham through the nights of Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This donation was made possible through the financial grant from The Mears Foundation.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ...

The practice of giving gifts during Christmastide, according to Christian tradition, is symbolic of the presentation of the gifts by the Three Wise Men to the infant Jesus.

Jake Gammack MF raffle prize winner received his Christmas present early this year.
Jake commented “Always happy to support good causes, especially during this time of year. Very surprised and grateful to have won!”

With the Christmas season lasting twelve days according to the liturgical calendars of many Christian Churches, a gift is given for each of the twelve days of Christmastide in some cultures,

Charitable Giving at Christmas

Christmas is a time of giving. We give all sorts of things at Christmas: we give our loved ones presents under the Christmas tree.
We give Christmas greetings to our neighbours and to our friends, and we give smiles to strangers. Christmas is indeed a very special time of year.

But there is another kind of giving that we also do, and not just at Christmas time but throughout the year. This kind of giving is directed to people less fortunate than ourselves.

A special thanks to all those who support us – what a help you have been this year!

The Trustees wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2020.

International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.

It is an opportunity for volunteers, and volunteer organisations, to raise awareness of, and gain understanding for, the contribution they make to their communities.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR SUPPORTERS FOR MAKING OUR WORK POSSIBLE!
