Party time for Meet and Mingle, Stowmarket

Yvonne Cattermole (Mears Care Coordinator – Stowmarket) would like to say a massive thank you to  Mears foundation for their generous donation of £500 to the Meet and Mingle group.

The Meet and Mingle group was set up to help with social isolation in the local community, over the last few years day centres have been closing so this group has been a big asset to the community.

Because of this generous donation on the 15th December 2017 the branch were able to hold a Christmas party for the people that have attended the Meet and Mingle throughout the year.

25 people attended,  which was amazing. The Stowmarket Strummers who are all volunteers came along to get us all in the Christmas spirit by playing Christmas song, there was plenty of food for everyone and they had an amazing Christmas raffle which included hampers, chocolate and lots more.

Next year is going to be an amazing year for the group, they are planning trips out, lots of activities for everyone to get involved in and entertainers for everyone to enjoy.

The donation will help to support more people who are suffering from social isolation

Thank You Rotherham !

Gary Jackson (MF Trustee) presented the Mears Foundation “Thank you for your support cake” to Andy Chambers, General Manager for Mears Housing Branch in Rotherham.

"It was a real privilege to be able to say thank you to Andy and the team at Rotherham, on behalf of the Mears Foundation, for all their support in raising much needed funds, which really do help us change lives."

Mears Home Group brings festive Cheer to Depaul

It was the 5th Christmas dinner for DePaul this year the event was even bigger and better than last year and this is all thanks to the help and support from Mears Home Group. The day went so well and everything went like clockwork, thanks to the amazing efforts of the "kitchen crew" and the volunteers from Mears which included, wrapping presents, dressing the tables, providing table service for the young people, and washing up. Mr Devlin and Mr Morrow really suited their aprons!!

The £100 donated from the tuck shop was amazing and allowed Debbie Keer to prepare 5 hampers for the young people and the £250 donation from the Mears Foundation will go towards all the important things the young people need as they start a new chapter in their lives.

Well done Debbie Kerr and team.

Community Connexions, Cheltenham Christmas party 2017

A splendid time was had by all at Community Connexions Christmas party.

The festivities started with a (what turned out to be lengthy) game of bingo which was followed by the buffet lunch which was delicious,   plentiful, and which Santa came to help serve. A game of pass the parcel and a Christmas quiz.

The raffle was won by Joyce Turner, from Gloucester and before we knew it was time to go home, with some of the service users having a bit of a sing song whilst waiting for drivers.

It was a great pleasure to help spread some Christmas cheer.

Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference!

Christmas hampers bring cheer to Stroud

Dursley & District Elderly Community Group open their doors daily Monday - Friday mornings to the elderly people in the area to pop in as and when they wish for a cup of tea and light bite they can stay as long as they want and come along as often as they wish.

There are a group of regulars who pop in every day (some of which were in the photo) who would otherwise not see anyone. This group is the lifeline for some of the community and sometimes the only social activity they are involved with.
The group is run by Gillian and a group of volunteers and is fully dependent on donations and grants. The cheque which was donated by Mears Foundation will go towards hiring a coach to take some of the community out for tea and cake.

Mears Foundation Supports Christmas Projects......

Christmas is all about giving. It shows our love, warms our hearts, and represents the true spirit of the holidays. We are spreading the festive cheer with supporting several local projects.

AGE UK Rotherham - Christmas Lunch.
This year Mears Rotherham served approximately 120 Christmas dinners to guests and volunteers from Age UK.

Each guest also received a small gift to take away with them. They have now reached their maximum numbers for this event, governed by the size of the church hall.

HOMELESS - soup & sandwiches
Mears Rotherham also made approximately 240 portions of homemade soup in 2 varieties, half taken to The Lighthouse Shelter in Rotherham and the remainder delivered to an outreach centre for them to freeze and use at their Friday drop-in's over the next few weeks. They also made sandwiches for the homeless shelter.

Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone

We may be dreaming of a white Christmas, but for many this time of year brings anything but festive cheer.

Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting oneself and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.

So, as we celebrate this Christmas season, may we ask you all to remember others less fortunate than ourselves.

Tis the season of goodwill......
