Men in sheds South Tyneside ...

We have been successful in partnering with a Men’s Shed in South Tyneside who offer a joinery workshop for the over 50's. They are open 5 days a week, 10am to 3pm.

Debbie Kerr applied to the Mears Foundation and was granted £250 which she arranged to present to the Chairman, Tom Brownlee, on Thursday, 6th July.

The essence of a shed is not the actual building but the shed represents the concept of a refuge at the bottom of the garden where stuff gets done, it symbolizes so many innovative ideas that have come from the shed.

The concept of Men’s Sheds started in Australia where men enjoyed their own sanctuary, a special place at the bottom of the garden and from that grew the Men’s Shed organization with about a thousand sheds in Australia and presently over three hundred and forty two sheds in the UK.

Leading up to retirement men think life after work is going to be fantastic, more time to play golf, walking, holidays, projects, get up late and fill the day with lots of things you have always wanted to do. In reality for many that is not the case as boredom and loneliness takes its toll leading to depression and isolation.

Get Walking and Raise Money‎ !

The final leg of the MF 2017 walks was a great success with 22 Walkers completing the 10 miles, although some (Bob) questioned the "mostly flat" description of the walk!

We had stunning views of the Stroud valleys, met quite a lot of the local animals including cows, horses and some donkeys. The team had great fun running thought a field of wheat, we had a lovely lunch at the Ragged Cot and then finished off the day with a stop-off at the Winstones ice cream factory!

Thanks again to all our wonderful walkers who took part in the 2017 Mears Foundation walks, brilliant organisation, wonderful teams and most of all raising money to help very worthy charitable causes.

Thank you Jude Herbert (Regional Financial Controller/MF trustee) for organising the Stroud valleys walk and feedback.
