Friends 4U group

Mears Tannochside and West Lothian branches teamed up with assistance from Mears Scotland to provide a safe and secure disabled access garden area for a local Friends 4U group. The teams pulled together to provide the group with:- A shed 6ft fencing Security lights Outside water tap and electrical point

The Friends 4u Group was started by a local group of carers who wanted to bring together adults in the local community with disabilities and learning difficulties to provide a safe environment for all to socialise and take part in activities. We met with group representatives to discover what they felt they needed to achieve the environment they were looking for. With help from a £250 donation from the Mears Foundation and materials provided by Jewson, Buildbase and Greenside Garden Centre, we were able to fully achieve the outcome they desired.

Thanks to the Mears Foundation donation and the generosity of the local garden centre on the day, they were also able to fill each of the planting beds and provide a variety of flowers and herbs to start the group off with their planting plans.

The Friends 4U Group are now able to use the garden area as intended for wheelchair users to plant and grow flowers and herbs. The Group believe this is a garden that encourages the users to work and achieve goals independently and provides a safe environment for them to socialise.
